My Scouting Story

My family’s Scouting journey started because I wanted to provide my son with opportunities to grow, build confidence, learn new skills, and create friendships. What began as a simple activity quickly became something much bigger. Scouting became a place where our family found community, adventure, and countless opportunities to serve others.

Over time, I found myself not only enjoying the experiences my child was having but also wanting to help create those same meaningful moments for other Scouts and families. Scouting has become a passion—a way to give back, support youth, and help build a program where every Scout feels welcomed and valued.

A few things you should know about me

I love a good plan, a well-organized event, and finding creative ways to make Scouting experiences memorable. I believe that behind every successful Scout experience is a team of volunteers who care deeply about youth and are willing to make a difference.

I truly appreciate every leader and parent who gives their time, energy, and heart to Scouting. The impact they make may not always be seen immediately, but every meeting, campout, skill taught, and encouraging word helps shape the next generation of leaders.

My Why

I believe Scouting has a place for every child. Every Scout comes with their own unique story, strengths, challenges, and abilities. My goal is to help create an environment where Scouts can discover what they are capable of, step outside their comfort zone, and realize that they can accomplish things they never thought possible.

Scouting is about more than badges and activities. It is about building confidence, resilience, friendships, leadership skills, and memories that last a lifetime.

My favorite Scouting Memories

Picking just one favorite Scouting memory is nearly impossible, so I have to share two.

As a parent watching my Scout grow:
One of my favorite memories is watching my son during Camp Grizzly 2024. Seeing the huge smile on his face after he overcame not just one, but two of his biggest fears was something I will never forget. Watching him realize that he was capable of more than he thought and seeing his confidence grow in that moment is exactly why Scouting is so special.

As a leader:
One of my favorite leadership memories came from helping organize and plan Tri-Cities Day Camp 2025. I helped plan the fishing station, and one of the most rewarding parts was hearing how much the station leader learned simply by stepping into that role. They gained new skills and knowledge while teaching Scouts.

Those skills were soon put to the test during a family outing while fishing and someone accidentally got a fishhook stuck. Because of what they learned while running the station, they knew how to properly and safely remove the hook before cleaning the area to help prevent infection. Seeing Scouting skills translate into a real-life situation was an incredible reminder of why what we teach matters.

My advice to families considering joining Scouting

If you are thinking about joining Scouting, my advice is simple: give it a chance.

No matter your child’s background, personality, or whether they have physical or mental challenges, Scouting has the ability to positively influence so many different areas of their life. It may not always be easy. There may be moments that require patience, flexibility, and perseverance—but those moments are often where the greatest growth happens.

Scouting teaches skills far beyond what is listed in a handbook. It helps build confidence, independence, teamwork, problem-solving, friendships, and a sense of belonging.

As a parent and as a Scout, you may face challenges along the way, but in the end, I truly believe you will not regret the time, effort, and memories you create through Scouting.
