Summer Outings 2026
During the summer months, Pack 117 takes a break from our regular den meeting schedule—but that doesn’t mean the fun stops! We want our Scouts to stay connected, make memories, and enjoy plenty of opportunities to spend time together.
As part of our Summertime Fun program, Pack 117 offers a Summer Outing each month in June, July, and August. These outings give Scouts and their families a chance to get together, explore new places, try new activities, and enjoy the adventure of Scouting together all summer long!
Did you know that our local Manhattan Project site in Richland offers a fantastic free educational opportunity almost every day during the summer?
Atomic Explorations gives visitors the chance to explore the history, science, and people behind the Manhattan Project while learning about Hanford's role in one of the most significant moments in world history.
Well... we didn't know either!
So what could be better than a Pack outing to explore some of our local history and participate in Atomic Explorations: Atomic Photographic Journey?
Programs are free, reservations are not required.

Our Pack 117 Scouts had an incredible opportunity to visit Benton County PUD and learn firsthand how electricity is generated, delivered, and used throughout our community.
Our Scouts learned about the power grid, the area Benton County PUD serves, where our electricity comes from, and the different energy sources used in our region. They explored the advantages of each energy source, why some are better suited for certain applications, and discussed how hydroelectric and nuclear power are among the cleanest sources of energy we use.
Next, they visited the Safety Demonstration Area, where they learned about electrical safety around downed power lines, transformers, and why electricity always seeks a path to the ground. They also discovered why birds can safely sit on power lines, the situations where animals are not safe, and why electricity is so dangerous to the human body. Our Scouts even got to see the specialized protective equipment linemen wear, including insulated gloves, and learned how they differ from ordinary work gloves.
The adventure concluded at the solar array, where the Scouts learned how solar panels convert sunlight into electricity and the materials used to manufacture them.
A huge thank you to Benton County PUD for opening your doors and giving our Scouts the opportunity to add another valuable skill and a wealth of new knowledge to their toolboxes. We also want to extend a very special thank you to your engineer and lineman who volunteered part of their weekend to share their expertise, answer questions, and inspire the next generation. Your time and dedication made this an unforgettable experience!

Our scouts had an incredible opportunity Saturday to meet some of the amazing people who dedicate their time to keeping our community safe.
Thank you for meeting us at the river and taking the time to share what you do, explain the important work of Search & Rescue and Dive Rescue, and teach our scouts real-life survival and water safety skills.
You covered so much valuable information—including what to do if your vehicle ever ends up in the water, why certain gear is used, and how that equipment helps during an emergency.
The scouts LOVED getting an up-close look at your rig and boat, checking out the equipment, and asking questions. For many of them, this was more than just a fun outing—it was an opportunity to learn skills that could someday make a very real difference.
Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge, experience, and passion with our Pack. The lessons you taught will stick with these scouts far beyond this adventure.
